Peter Berthelesen's - Neighbors Working Together

Pete is known within the local community for promoting and implementing pollinator habitat conservation. He believes that involvement in wildlife conservation has increased throughout the community over the last few years. His farm tours have helped. In the area around the Berthelsen’s land, several landowners have enrolled land in CRP and over the last seven years, three local landowners have enrolled over 1,000 acres in the Wetland Reserve Program (WRP) combining to form one contiguous tract. In addition, Pete helped his community develop a local prescribed burn association where “neighbors help neighbors” to conduct safe and effective prescribed burning each spring. The only cost to landowners to have prescribed burns conducted is their “sweat equity” and the cost to feed the rest of the crew following the burn. Pete works in many states with his position with Pheasants Forever, Inc. as a Senior Field Coordinator and helps promote the formation of local prescribed burn associations, development of pollinator habitat, and the promotion of Federal, state and local conservation programs.
