Emily Schmidt grew up surrounded by ag-land in California’s Central Valley. From an early age she knew the importance of pollination as the arrival of bee hives to the almond orchards was an important part of the year. Emily’s early exposure to agriculture, along with her love of animals, being in nature, and interest in food, led her to study Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems at University of California, Davis. Emily focused on understanding the pressing social, environmental, and political issues of agriculture and gained a passion for community development within rural and underserved regions of California. Since earning her B.S. at UC Davis, she worked in agricultural outreach and technical assistance for over six years with farmer veterans; gained experience in grant management and research writing and analysis within agricultural non-profits; managed diversified organic vegetable production and a Community Supported Agriculture(CSA); and worked as a Community Development Manager in Sacramento with an emphasis on expanding farmers markets and resource access. Emily is excited to use her experience and interest in sustainable agriculture to promote pollinators and support P2, Bee Friendly Farming, and farmers as the Agricultural Assistant.
